About Our CPD Programmes

The Learning & Development (L&D) department oversees the organisation and conduct of CPD-accredited activities for The Law Society of Singapore, non-members as well as other legal professionals and law students. We are a Singapore Institute of Legal Education (SILE)-accredited Provider of CPD activities for the legal profession and our policies are in accordance with SILE’s guidelines and requirements. Please note that CPD points are not awarded by The Law Society of Singapore as the organiser of CPD activities. Rather, CPD points are claimed by members who are able to demonstrate that they have undertaken a CPD activity and have complied with the applicable attendance policy.

Members are highly encouraged to read through this list of FAQs in full for any CPD programme-related queries. Please note that queries pertaining to the following should be directed to SILE.

FAQ

  1. When does the CPD year run?

The CPD year runs from 1 January to 31 December each year. CPD points will count towards the calendar year in which the relevant activities were attended and will meet your CPD requirements (if any) for that . Please note that CPD Points obtained in one CPD year cannot be applied towards the next CPD Year (e.g. CPD points obtained in 2024 cannot be carried over to 2025). The CPD Points requirements as stipulated by SILE represent the minimum expected of lawyers. As such, you may not carry over excess CPD Points obtained in one CPD Year to another.

  1. How do I find more information about upcoming CPD programmes organised by The Law Society of Singapore?

You can refer to the CPD Calendar of Events for the list of programmes that are open for registration, which can be viewed here.

From time to time, we also publish a list of selected events organised by external organisations and/or partners that are open for registration to our members. This list can be accessed here. Please contact the organisers of these events directly for any queries related to their programmes.

  1. What is the cost of attending a CPD programme?

The registration fees are indicated on the registration pages of the relevant programme. Except where otherwise indicated, the registration fees are inclusive of GST at the prevailing rates.

  1. What is the enrolment/registration process? What happens after I pay?

Registration for a CPD programme organised by The Law Society of Singapore will be done directly on the EventNook page for that programme. Please fill in the required details and select your payment mode.

For immediate confirmation of your registration, you are strongly encouraged to make payment by Credit Card via PayPal.

For payment via PayNow, the payment details will be indicated on your registration acknowledgement email. Kindly ensure that you make payment as soon as possible for your registration to be confirmed.

For payment via GIRO-DDA, we will process the payment with your law firm separately. Please note that your registration is taken as confirmed. Do note that in the event your law firm does not have a standing GIRO arrangement with The Law Society of Singapore, we will contact you to make payment using an alternative mode.  

  1. What are the payment modes accepted?

The following payment methods are currently accepted:

  • Secured Payment by Credit Card (Visa/MasterCard/Amex) via PayPal (please note that no PayPal account is required)
  • PayNow
  • GIRO DDA (only available to law practices that have a standing GIRO DDA arrangement with the Law Society of Singapore)
  1. Do you take refunds or cancellations?

Please take note of our cancellation and refund policy below:

A participant who cancels their registration before the event date shall be liable to pay the percentage of the registration fee set out as follows:

  • 20 calendar days before commencement date: 25% of registration fee.
  • 8 to 19 calendar days before commencement date: 50% of registration fee.
  • 7 calendar days or less before commencement date: 100% of registration fee.

Participants who cancel their registration without prior payment made (i.e. through GIRO-DDA) shall also be liable to the cancellation fee set out above.

In the event that the payment for cancellation fee is not received despite multiple chasers, a tax invoice will be issued and mailed to your law practice/organisation.

Participants who are unable to attend the programme due to medical exigencies will be subject to a cancellation fee of 50% of registration fee. Please note that you will be required to submit a soft copy of your medical certificate/doctor’s note for our verification.

  1. What happens if I am no longer able to attend a programme?

If you are unable to attend, a substitute delegate is welcomed, provided that The Law Society of Singapore is notified in writing of the name and particulars of the substitute delegate at least 3 working days before the programme. Please email lnd@lawsoc.org.sg.

  1. What happens if I register for a programme/event and there are insufficient attendees?

The Law Society of Singapore endeavours to run all our CPD programmes as publicised. However, we reserve the right to change the programmes or to cancel if there are insufficient registrations. Affected attendees will be notified as soon as possible.

  1. How is my attendance verified for a CPD programme?

For in-person events, attendees are reminded to sign in and to sign out at the registration desk located at the event venue. You are kindly requested to provide the QR code that was sent to your email upon successful registration to facilitate your attendance taking.

For webinars/online programmes, your attendance will be tracked automatically once you have logged in to Zoom for the relevant programme, and until you leave Zoom at the end of the programme.

Please note that our attendance policy is in accordance with SILE’s attendance policy for accredited CPD activities. If you have failed to comply with the attendance policy, we will not be able to submit your attendance for processing by SILE. You may wish to contact SILE directly at cpd@sile.sg for any queries concerning your attendance at a CPD programme.

  1. I attended a CPD programme but have yet to receive my CPD points. What do I do?

If you have attended a programme and successfully complied with the attendance policy for that programme, please email . Please note that we will require 3-5 working days to verify your attendance and submit to SILE for processing. SILE will subsequently require another 5 working days to approve your attendance. Your patience is much appreciated in this regard.

If you have failed to comply with the attendance policy, please note that no CPD points will be awarded, in accordance with SILE’s policies. Please contact SILE at cpd@sile.sg for further assistance or clarification if you wish to claim CPD points for a programme that you have attended, but were unable to meet the attendance requirements.

  1. I would like to check on my CPD points record/ePortfolio, whom should I contact?

  1. Can I share my Zoom login details with a colleague for a webinar/online programme?

Registrations for webinars/online programmes are strictly non-transferable. You are required to register and pay for your own individual attendance for a webinar/online programme, login using the email address provided for registration, and view the webinar/online programme on your own computer/laptop/mobile device if you wish to claim CPD points.

Should unforeseen circumstances arise and you are unable to attend a webinar/online programme that you had previously registered for, please contact lnd@lawsoc.org.sg for further assistance.

  1. What if I am experiencing technical issues accessing a webinar/online programme?

Please email lnd@lawsoc.org.sg for assistance. We do appreciate your patience and understanding as we attend to a high volume of queries when running a webinar/online programme. We will nevertheless endeavour to attend to you as soon as possible.

  1. What are the e-Learning programmes available?

Please click here to access the e-Learning programmes offered by The Law Society of Singapore that are currently available for enrolment.

  1. What is the cost?

The registration fees for access to the e-Learning programmes are indicated on the respective course page.

  1. What are the payment modes accepted?

The following payment methods are currently accepted:

You may pay via credit/debit card via PayPal. Please note that no PayPal account is required.

Do note that payment can only be made at the point of registration through the course registration page.

  1. Do you take refunds or cancellations?

Generally, the e-Learning programmes are not eligible for refunds or cancellations. However, The Law Society of Singapore may approve a refund/cancellation request on a case-by-case basis.

Should you wish to seek a refund or cancellation, please notify us in writing within 24-hours from the time of registration. Request must be sent via email to lnd@lawsoc.org.sg.

Do note that a 15% administration fee will be imposed should the request be approved.

  1. How long do I have access to the e-Learning programmes?

Unless otherwise indicated, login details to access the purchased e-Learning programme(s) will be sent to you via email within 1 to 2 calendar days. The period of access will vary depending on the programme. Please refer to the relevant e-Learning programme page for more information.

  1. Are the e-Learning programmes eligible for CPD points?

Viewing of the e-Learning programmes may be eligible for private CPD points. Please note that practitioners are solely responsible for submitting your private CPD points via ePortfolio.

  1. Can I share my login details?

Access to the e-Learning programmes is strictly non-transferable. Your login details are unique to you. Anyone who wishes to gain access to the programmes must purchase their own access to the programme.
