As corporate lawyers, equipping ourselves better and exploring new vistas should be our mantra to live and work in the volatile times. It is in this spirit that The Law Society of Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law have come together to organise the inaugural Corporate Law Day 2020.

At the international level, prospects of trade wars between global titans, a messy Brexit and tensions spilling over in the streets of Hong Kong have roiled the capital markets and undoubtedly raised the spectre of a global recession materialising in the fourth quarter or early next year.

Domestically, whilst the headlines are certainly not all gloomy, Singapore has also seen her fair share of challenges. Just look at the continuing downturn in the Offshore Oil & Gas sector and the travails of a well-known listed company whose restructuring efforts resemble a roller-coaster ride for their multitude of retail stakeholders.

Graced by The Honourable Judge of Appeal Steven Chong and with a keynote address from Senior Minister of State for Law and Health, Mr Edwin Tong, SC, let’s hear from our Corporate bar colleagues what is happening in the exciting space of venture capital investing where lawyers rub shoulders with “angels”, “unicorns” and “decacorns”.  Do we need to be reminded that climate change is upon us? Find out how bankers and finance lawyers are taking the fight to combat ecological disasters with green financing. The Employment Act has been significantly revamped this April and are there more changes in store? These and other weighty topics for discussion await you on Corporate Law Day 2020.
