1. Requests for Oral Interview
- A member of the media wishing to conduct an oral interview with any representative of the Society should make his request for the interview in writing to communications@lawsoc.org.sg.
Unless otherwise advised by the Society, quotes from such oral interview can be attributed to the interviewee as representative of the Society in their capacity as such.
- Members of media are to note that all oral interviews will be audio recorded by the Law Society for record purposes.
2. Media Queries
- All media enquiries, as far as possible, shall be in writing and addressed to the email address above.
- Please note that no part of any media response of the Society may be attributed as quotes from any representative of the Society under any circumstances, save where prior written permission of the Society has been given.
3. Coverage of Law Society Events and Conferences
- From time to time, the Society may invite members of the media to attend events, seminars and conferences organised by the Society. In the absence of such invitation, Society seminars and conferences are not open to the media.Where members of the media are invited to attend a seminar or conference of the Society, the guidelines set out in paragraph 3.2 shall be strictly complied with.Breach of these guidelines may result in the exclusion of the media representative(s) from the seminar or conference (at the absolute discretion of the Law Society).
- Guidelines for members of media in attending Society’s seminar or conference
- All audio or visual recording of the seminar/conference is strictly prohibited unless prior written approval from the Society has been obtained. No photographer and/or cameraman may be present at the event (to take photographs or film the event as the case maybe) unless prior written permission from the Society has been obtained. Such request for permission must be made to the Society not less than 7 working days prior to the seminar/ conference.
- All media representatives attending the event will be issued a nametag by the Society, which must be worn at all times during the event.
- Media representatives must confirm in writing with the Communications department of the Society not less than 7 working days before the event:
- if they wish to interview speaker(s) or chairperson(s) during, after or before the event; and/ or
- if they wish to have a copy of the seminar materials.
- Media representatives shall not be permitted to pose questions to the speaker(s) or chairperson(s) during the question and answer sessions or at any point during the seminar or conference.
- Media representatives shall not be permitted to quote questions put to speakers or their answers made during the seminar or conference, except with the prior written consent of the relevant speaker(s) and participant(s).
4. Restrictions
- The Society is unable to give interviews, issue statement or give any comment to the media on any matter in connection with any Judgment of the Court.
- The Law Society cannot comment to the media on any pending complaint matter for which the Society is mandated by law to inquire or prosecute under the Legal Profession Act. If any disciplinary matter is heard in open court, the Society may issue a media release or media backgrounder.
- In the event where a lawyer gives an interview to any member of the media, views expressed by the lawyer shall not be attributed as views of a representative of the Society, unless prior written approval from the Society has been obtained.
