Legal advice on its own is rarely enough. The practical context always counts; often workplace politics has a role; pragmatism is key. It’s pointless to get legal advice that is perfectly correct legally, but is useless in any real sense. The advice we give is never pointless. We see the law as an activator and enabler of business. Lyn Boxall’s Background

I’ve worked as a lawyer in Singapore since 2000 … but that only tells part of my story. Before moving to Singapore I worked as a lawyer in Victoria, Australia for many years. I’ve also worked inhouse in the US, as well as working closely with colleagues in the UK.

If you’re representing a business – including a startup – in Singapore, I can help you with practical advice and a business-friendly outlook. If you’re not – if you’re from Australia, the UK, the US or elsewhere – I can ‘translate’ business and legal concepts from your home country into what works in Singapore.

Singapore and several ASEAN countries have established data protection / privacy regimes. Getting things right in Singapore, together with other ASEAN countries in which you operate, can help your business. Especially regarding trust and reputation among stakeholders. We are also very familiar with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the EU and, since Brexit, with the equivalent law in the United Kingdom.

But many will argue that privacy / data protection is old hat; that we should now be looking at artificial intelligence and data governance too. I agree. And add cybersecurity to the mix – not in the technical/IT sense, but more generally.
