MANDATORY CPD SCHEME: KNOWING YOUR CPD REQUIREMENTS

Notice: CPD Year 2019 Points Requirement

  1. The following lawyers (including those practising as locum solicitors) will need to fulfil CPD requirements for CPD Year 2019, which runs from 1 January to 31 December 2019:
     
    1. Advocates and solicitors of more than 15 years' standing ('Group 3 Lawyers') - those admitted to the Singapore Bar on or before 31 December 2003;
       
    2. Advocates and solicitors of 5 to 15 years' standing ('Group 2 Lawyers') - those admitted to the Singapore Bar between 1 January 2004 and 1 January 2014 (both dates inclusive);
       
    3. Advocates and solicitors of less than 5 years' standing ('Group 1 Lawyers') - those admitted to the Singapore Bar on or after 2 January 2014; and
       
    4. Foreign lawyers registered under section 36B of the Legal Profession Act ('s36B Foreign Lawyers').
       
  2. For CPD Year 2019, the CPD Points requirements are as follows:
    Group 3 Lawyers Group 2 Lawyers Group 1 Lawyers s36B Foreign Lawyers
a. Holding a Practicing Certificate or foreign practitioner certificate for more than 8 months Will need to obtain 4 CPD Points. At least 2 must be Public CPD Points Will need to obtain 8 CPD Points. At least 4 must be Public CPD Points Will need to obtain 16 CPD Points. At least 8 must be Public CPD Points Will need to obtain 8 CPD Points. At least 4 must be Public CPD Points
b. Holding a Practicing Certificate or foreign practitioner certificate for more than 5 months up to 8 months Will need to obtain 4 CPD Points. At least 2 must be Public CPD Points Will need to obtain 8 CPD Points. At least 4 must be Public CPD Points Will need to obtain 4 CPD Points. At least 2 must be Public CPD Points
c. Holding a Practicing Certificate or foreign practitioner certificate for 5 months or less Do not need to obtain any minimum CPD Points
