Drug Offences

Drug Offences are dealt with in the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Possession of drugs (S8a):
If you have any controlled drugs without legal permission, you have committed the offence of possession of drugs. You may be jailed up to 10 years or fined or both


Consumption of drugs (S8b):
If you have consumed a controlled drug without legal permission, you have committed the offence of consumption of drugs. You can be sent to a Drugs Rehabilitation Centre or you may be jailed to up to 10 yrs or fined or both.


Glue Sniffing:
If you purposely use or inhale any substances that cause you to get high, you have committed the offence of Inhalant Abuse. You can be sent to a Drugs Rehabilitation Centre or you may be jailed to up to 6 months or fined or both.


Trafficking of drugs (S5):
If you sold or gave or 'lent' or shared (with another person) a controlled drug without legal permission, you have committed the offence of trafficking of drugs. You will be jailed and caned.

There is a death penalty for drugs trafficked over a certain amount.

There is a presumption of trafficking when you have over a certain amount of drugs in your possession.
