Where to Seek Help

About Our Pro Bono Initiatives

Probono Introduction Helping Hands

An important part of the Law Society's mission is to serve the community by facilitating access to justice. The scope and range of pro bono work undertaken by the legal profession and the Law Society has been steadily growing over the years.

In 2006, the Law Society conducted a comprehensive review of areas of improvement in the provision of legal aid in Singapore to facilitate access to justice. A number of key recommendations were made in the report, chief among which were a pledge by every lawyer of 25 hours per year towards doing pro bono work, and the establishment of a pro bono services office to coordinate all pro bono initiatives of the Law Society.

In August 2007, with the support of the Ministry of Law and the Singapore Academy of Law, the Law Society established the Pro Bono Services Office.

Pro Bono Services Office

The Pro Bono Services Office coordinates and administers all pro bono initiatives of the Law Society, including the following:

  • the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme; and

  • the Project Law Help initiative; and

  • the Law Awareness initiative (a public education initiative to raise public awareness of the law by way of conducting public education seminars and exhibitions regularly and publication of educational information); and

  • the Community Legal Clinics.
