What is Pro Bono?
Simply put, it means free legal help for needy persons.
No one should be deprived of access to justice, especially not the poor and
needy, who are often the most vulnerable members of society.
We are here to help.
An important mission of the Law Society is ensuring access to justice. We help
needy people and organisations in matters of the law, whether it is simply
knowing what the law is or defending a person’s rights in Court. We believe that
the law serves all, and money should be no barrier.
In 2007, the Law Society established the Law Society of Singapore Pro Bono,
Learning and Support Services (PLSS) to oversee its free legal assistance
efforts and programs. PLSS is a Charity and an Institution of Public Character.
The Pro Bono Services Office is the administrative arm of PLSS and coordinates
all of the Law Society's free legal assistance efforts and programmes.
What does the Pro Bono Services Office do?
We find and match the legal needs in the community with our volunteer lawyers,
who give generously of their time and expertise for the sake of justice. With
the support of the Ministry of Law, the Singapore Academy of Law, the
Subordinate Courts and other community partners, we are working towards a vision
of access to justice for all in Singapore.
