Guidance on Professional & Practice Issues

The Law Society is unable to give legal advice.

However, practitioner members may refer to our Members’ Library for access to documents relevant to their practice including:

  • Practice Directions, Rulings and Guidance Notes of the Council;

  • Practice Directions, Circulars and Notices of Government Departments and Statutory Boards, and the Judiciary;

  • Practice matters; and

  • Legal Ethics.

The following publications are available at our e-shop:

  • Guide to Professional Conduct for Advocates and Solicitors;

  • Art of Family Lawyering (2nd Edition);

  • LSAS handbook; and

  • Law Society’s Conditions of Sale 2012.

Alternatively, practitioner members who have a concern or query on a practice issue may seek guidance on practice issues from any of our Practice Committees. Simply e-mail your query to the relevant Secretariat Representative listed on the page who will then refer the queries to the appropriate practice committee.

Practitioner members who have a query or need guidance on professional conduct rules or professional ethics may direct their queries to our Ethics Committee. In this regard, please refer to Council’s Practice Direction 2 of 2009 – Guidelines for Inquiries to Ethics Committee. The query should be sent by post, fax or email to our Representation and Law Reform Department, which will refer the query to the Ethics Committee.
