GIDEON TAN
Gideon Tan graduated in 1990 with a B.A. (Hons) in England. He is a Barrister of Gray’s Inn, London and was called to the Bar in England in 1993.
Upon his return to Malaysia, he was enrolled as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya. He was attached to Messrs Lee Hishammuddin from December 1993 to April 1996 as an Associate. His areas of practice included civil and commercial litigation, trust law, banking litigation, corporate insolvency and matters relating to receivership and shareholder disputes.
Gideon then set up his own practice in June 1996 which is now known as Messrs Gideon Tan Razali Zaini. He heads the litigation department and is highly sought after for disputes relating to Company Law and shareholder disputes having been involved in many high profile matters related to public listed companies.
He has extensive experience in obtaining pre-emptive relief for clients, including Mareva injunctions to prevent assets from being dissipated, Anton Pillar orders to preserve incriminating evidence before it is destroyed and many others. Gideon is also well-known for his prompt service and being responsiveness to the clients’ needs. His innovative and effective solutions have helped resolve many of his clients’ problems in the most practical and cost-effective ways.
Gideon is also involved in arbitration matters both in Malaysia and in Singapore. He has strengthened his areas of practice in receivership and liquidation, and in matters relating to employment, professional negligence and securities law. He has handled many legal cases which have been reported in Malaysian law journals.

TAN HOCK SOON
Tan Hock Soon obtained his LL.B degree from the University of London in 1981, his Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) in 1984 and was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1998.
Tan Hock Soon lends diverse experience and expertise to this young and dynamic firm.
Prior to joining the firm, he served as Legal Director of the UMW Holdings Berhad Group of Companies for 15 years. In this capacity, he played a key role in drafting a wide range of legal documents and contracts involving joint ventures, distributorships, leases and tenancies, sales and purchases of land, employment of personnel, mortgages and debentures. His ability to be deft yet methodical when putting pen to paper also led him to international assignments in Singapore, Japan, Thailand and Vietnam. Tan Hock Soon’s forte is corporate conveyancing.

MA PIN YEN
Ma Pin Yen is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn, London having been called to the English Bar in 1997 and the Malaysian Bar in 1998. She holds an LL.B (Hons) degree from University of Leeds, United Kingdom. She commenced practice in 1998 with Gideon Tan Razali Zaini and has been a partner of the firm since 2006.
Pin Yen commenced her first two years of legal practice as a litigation lawyer and has been exposed to diverse cases in civil and commercial litigation. She is currently an experienced corporate and conveyancing lawyer specialising in the areas of conveyance of properties, consumer banking, corporate and commercial contracts involving the business of broadcasting and media, shareholders, joint ventures, acquisitions of assets and businesses of companies, distributorships and services.
Further, she provides advisory services on negotiation and preparation of legal documentation in respect of corporate restructuring of companies (including advising Liquidators, Receivers and Managers on legal issues and drafting of agreements pertaining to the realization of assets of companies under receivership and liquidation), shareholder disputes resolutions and settlements for companies. She also provides advice, assists in negotiations and attends to drafting, perusing, commenting on and coordination of the documents required by various parties in connection with
commercial transactions and contracts for companies.

KOOI TOCK KEN
Kooi Tock Ken is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn, London having been called to the English Bar in 1996 and the Malaysian Bar in 1997. He holds an LL.B (Hons) degree from University of London. He commenced legal practice in 2000 ending his two and a half years exposure in a financial institution in Malaysia. He was engaged with two other legal firms in Malaysia prior to joining Gideon Tan Razali Zaini in 2003 and was appointed partner of the firm in 2006.
Throughout his practice, Kooi Tock Ken has been involved in a broad range of commercial and corporate work including giving advisory services on diverse matters, negotiation and preparation of legal documentation pertaining to corporate restructuring, shareholder disputes resolutions and settlements for both private and public companies, imparting advice on company secretarial practices and issues relating to the constitutions of companies.
Further, he has been providing legal advisory towards corporate restructuring and debt settlement of companies listed in Bursa Malaysia, including advising on and preparing debt settlement agreements with their financiers and the disposal of their assets and those of their subsidiaries. He also advises Liquidators and Receivers & Managers on issues surrounding receivership and liquidation of private and public listed companies, attending to all legal work and documentation related thereto. He was also involved from the inception, in attending to all the legal work and documentation for the setting-up, the financing, construction (regarding both local contractors and foreign specialists), operation contracts, subsequent corporate restructuring and divestment of equity in respect of the company that is now operating the marine aquarium in the city centre of Kuala Lumpur.
He also advises commercial and housing developers on issues relating to development land, master charges, encumbrances, end-purchasers and end-financiers and has conduct of matters in various other areas of conveyancing practice, among others, the preparation of sub-sale agreements, retail banking loan documentation and finalization of documentation in relation to corporate loans, project financing, master end-financing arrangements, retail and commercial tenancy agreements, intellectual property rights protection and registration of trade marks.

Cynthia Lee May Sum
Cynthia read law at the University of Sheffield, England and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) (Hons) in 2003. She then obtained a Certificate in Legal Practice to practise in Malaysia.
Having qualified as an advocate and solicitor in Malaysia in August 2005, Cynthia joined Gideon Tan Razali Zaini, Malaysia as an Associate. She handled conveyancing, succession, intellectual property, and banking matters. Cynthia is currently a Partner in Gideon Tan Razali Zaini’s office in Singapore.
