M. Rajaram Photo
"Success is never an accident, hard work always pays..."

Rajaram
Senior Director

Rajaram shed a clothing of the law for another whilst serving the nation. He spent eight years as a regular in the Police Force and in that time, pursued his law degree at the then University of Singapore. His unassuming and approachable nature belies the fact that he is a firm and decisive individual, obsessed with meeting deadlines.

Rajaram holds an MBA from Maastricht, is a Fellow of the Institute of Arbitrators and a solicitor of England and Wales. He has been in active practice since 1980 in the areas of criminal and civil litigation, corporate, insolvency and real estate law. At Straits Law, Rajaram oversees the corporate and noncontentious areas of practice of the firm.

In the area of insolvency practice, Rajaram's insightful business acumen and experience, combined with a sound knowledge of law in this area has seen him achieve notable successes.

Although he spends long hours at work, he still manages to find time for community service -volunteering at various organisations. He is currently the Vice Chairman of Singapore Business Federation and was formerly the Singapore representative in the ICC Commission on International Arbitration.

Rajaram is also the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Mali for Singapore.

"My father was an interpreter in the High Court and at the Police Courts.
I grew up on legal anecdotes..."

N. Sreenivasan
Managing Director

Sreeni's father was an interpreter in the High Court and at the Police Courts. Growing up on legal anecdotes, his unrelentless and aggressive nature to steadfastly stand for what he believes in, instilled in him a passion for the law. His overriding commitment is to his client's cause, sometimes to the point of irritating others. Sreeni loves doing cases involving technical and accounting matters and expert evidence, where court craft can be enjoyed at its best. Sreeni is a Fellow of the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

A doting (but somewhat absent) father of four children, Sreeni is constantly kept on his toes and cheekily reveals that he will have to deal with teenage children until he is 66, and must stay young!

Straits Law, to him, is an ideal. A place where law can be practiced ethically and enjoyed. It is a firm that has inculcated a collegiate atmosphere with a 'ready to dig in and take the bull by the horns' attitude.

Joseph Liow Wang Wu Photo
"I chose to pursue a career in law because I knew I would be good at it."

Joseph Liow
Director

The first thing you will notice about Joseph is his self-confidence. He makes no bones about standing out from the crowd. Joe is a well-planned individual. In his late teens, he assessed his strengths and personality and made a decision to venture into law. Gregarious, extroverted and with a decent analytical ability, this dynamic youth, hungry to excel, opted for a career that has allowed him to build on his strengths and people skills.

Joseph, an ASEAN scholar, graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1992 and has been in legal practice since 1993. He heads one of our two litigation teams and handles construction litigation and arbitration. Technically and mathematically inclined, Joseph enjoys the challenge of complex building claims. Joseph has been with the firm since pupillage and has grown with the firm. He is a lead trainer with the Law Society's Advocacy programme.

This golf enthusiast is a firm believer that a bad day at the golf course beats a good day in the office, anytime.

Stuart Palmer Photo
"Never take anyone/anything for granted."

Stuart Andrew Palmer
Director

Stuart has pursued law as a career for 18, fulfilling years. For him, the study and practice of law is a continuing learning experience. Straits Law is like a second home and his colleagues are more like his extended family.

This prolific lawyer enjoys tinkering around the house whenever he has time. He spends quality time with his wife, two sons and a daughter although he feels that he has been gainfully employed in a second job as a "driver". He finds that the time spent with his family helps him relax and recharge his spirit.

The golf novice hopes to tee off regularly with more visits to the driving range. Currently, he is the Chairman of the Management Committee of St. Joseph's Institution Junior where both his sons are studying and is also a member of the Christian Brother's School Board of Management. Stuart is a volunteer speaker for SANA, on the dangers of drug abuse. Stuart also helps out in cases under the Criminal Legal Aid Scheme and gives free legal advice at legal clinics for the Family Life Society. A true blue Eurasian, Stuart enjoys Devil Curry and Sugee Cake, and will travel all the way to Kluang Railway Station in Malaysia for the scrumptious Kaya bun.

Palaniappan S Photo
"Medicine was my passion. Law was not a choice but I have no regrets now."

Palaniappan Sundararaj
Director

Raj chose law because he believes it can make a difference to others. He strongly believes in seeking justice for his clients and equity for all. His caring nature to improve the lives of others is apparent when a client comes to him with a case.

Raj graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1988 and subsequently obtained his Master's Degree in 1994. He was a PSC Merit Bursary Award holder and served as Deputy Public Prosecutor and State Counsel prior to joining Straits Law. Raj heads the entire litigation department of the firm and one of our two litigation teams. He handles complex litigation matters involving issues of negligence. Raj is a "lawyer's lawyer" and is often briefed as counsel in matters where he has acknowledged expertise.

Raj enjoys leisurely drives along Malaysian roads and highways, as it is reminiscent of Singapore in the 60s and 70s. He misses the nostalgia of days gone by and travels across the causeway to relive them.

He is a very pragmatic individual and lives by the motto: "Identify the real issues and be focused towards the course of justice with the rewards in mind."
