Professor Leong Wai Kum
Professor Leong Wai Kum was the first top graduate of the then new Faculty of Law at the University of Malaya in 1976 earning a First Class (Honours) LLB and the prestigious Lord President Prize. She also holds an LLM from Harvard University.
She dedicates herself to the elucidation and development of family law in Singapore. She has written several books including Elements of Family Law in Singapore (2007), Halsburys’ Laws of Singapore Volume 11 Family Law (2001) and Principles of Family Law in Singapore (1997), many articles and commentaries and participated actively in both family law reform exercises in 1979 and 1995.
She contributes to international discourse on aspects of family law. She was the first invited Visiting Researcher of the Clarke Program in East Asian Law and Culture of the Cornell Law School, New York, where she delivered two public lectures. She has contributed a chapter each to the International Survey of Family Law 2002, 2004 and 2006 Editions published by the International Society of Family Law. She is on an international panel to produce a comparative perspective on marital agreements and private autonomy, an effort led by Cambridge University, UK.
