Ms Ellen Lee

Ellen graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) in 1980 and was called to the Singapore bar in 1981. She began her legal career as a Junior Lawyer for more than 3 years before setting up her own practice, Messrs Ellen Lee & Co in October 1984 as a sole-proprietor for 21 years. She merged her practice with M/s Ramdas & Wong in September 2005 and became their Consultant. In the General Election in 2006, Ellen was elected a Member of Parliament for Sembawang GRC(Woodlands). She now juggles two full time jobs as a lawyer and as an MP.

Ellen’s practice and expertise is primarily in the area of Family Law due to her keen interest in counseling clients and their children who are undergoing divorce to help mitigate the acrimony and bitterness prevalent in such proceedings and help them to move on in life.

Ellen has also previously served as the President of the Singapore Association of Women Lawyers, a Court Appointed Counsel For Children in Custody Disputes, Chairman of People's Association's Community Clubs' Women's Executive Committees (currently as Advisor), Pioneer Chairman of The Law Society of Singapore's Family Law Practice Committee (1997-2006), Advisor to Juvenile Court of Singapore (2004-2006), Chairman of Family & Young Children's Committee and Member of the Ministry of Community Development's National Committee on the Family, to name a few. She is also Legal Advisor and Consultant to numerous NGOs and VWOs (e.g. Samaritans Of Singapore, Family Service Centers, Singapore Action Group for Elders (SAGE), Clans, Associations & Temples, etc.). She also gave free legal counseling to the public, conducted workshops, seminars and talks pro bono on the Women's Charter and Maintenance of Parents' Act to create and raise awareness and responded to the Chinese and English newspapers' legal letter-boxes. She is also regularly interviewed on TV and Radio for her views on the law and current affairs.
