Mr Edward Devereux
Edward Devereux was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2001. He is well known for his work relating to the international movement of children, and, in particular, child abduction. In 2007, he appeared for the successful appellant mother in the House of Lords in the leading English child abduction case of recent years, In re M and another (Children) (Abduction: Rights of Custody) [2008] 1 AC 1288 sub nom Re M (Abduction: Zimbabwe) [2008] 1 FLR 251, and in 2008 he appeared for the successful appellant father in the European Court of Human Rights, in Carlson v Switzerland. He has also appeared in many recent important cases which have considered how children should participate in Hague Convention 1980 proceedings (including Re C (Abduction: Separate Representation of Children) [2008] 2 FLR 6 and Re S (Abduction: Children’s Representation) [2008] 2 FLR 1918).
