Ms Chew Swee Yoke
Chew Swee Yoke obtained her LL.B (Hons) from University of Birmingham. She was also called to the English Bar, Lincoln’s Inn in 1969 and called to Malaysian and Singapore Bar in 1970 and 1971 respectively. She was a President of Federation of Women Lawyers now known as Association of Women Lawyers. She was the first Chairperson of the Bar Council National Legal Aid Committee, Honorable Secretary of Bar Council Human Rights Committee and Bar Council New Legislation & Law Reform Committee.
Over the past 20 years, she has worked closely with National Council of Women’s Organisations (NCWO) and other women organizations on various areas of interest to women and family such as rape law reform, domestic violence as well as of interest to the general public such as prison rehabilitation. She is a Life Member of Women’s Aid Organisation (WAO) 1st NGO to run centre for battered wives.
