Ms Carmelia Nathen

Carmelia’s work at the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports for the past 16 years has largely been with children, young persons and families at risk or in distress. Her present work with the Child Protection Service was prompted by a keenness to contribute to the needs of abused children and develop the expertise of the sector in this field. Carmelia sits on various committees and review platforms which has oversight of the investigation and management of child abuse cases. She was also the Chairperson for the organising committee for the National Family Violence Networking Symposium 2008 ‘From the Lens of a Child: Breaking the Cycle of Inter-generational Violence’. What guides her practice is her simple but firm belief that every person has dignity.
