Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee

Peng Kee retired from politics in May 2011, after 20 years as Member of Parliament (1991-2011), of which for 18 of years he held political office (1993-2011). At the time of retirement, he was Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs.

As SMS (Law), he actively promoted community mediation, moving the Community Mediation Centres (CMC) Bill in Parliament in 1997 and overseeing MinLaw's Community Mediation Unit that operated the CMCs. Upon retirement, he continues to chair a Community Mediation Advisory Committee at MinLaw. As MP for Nee Soon East constituency throughout his tenure of 20 years, Ho Peng Kee worked very closely with his grassroots leaders in building up a strong espirit-de-corp amongst the residents, where settling differences and disputes was part of the process.

He took leave from the Law Faculty, NUS to become office-holder in 1993. He was then the Vice-Dean and an Associate Professor. He has returned to the Faculty on a part-time basis as Associate Professorial Fellow.
