Primers on Professional Ethics and Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Accounts) Rules for Practice Trainees

Note:
Supervising solicitors may wish to bring to the attention of their Practice
Trainees that the following are dates scheduled for the Primer on Professional
Ethics and Legal Profession (Solicitors’ Accounts) Rules for 2012. Do note that
seats are allocated on a first come first served basis.
Pursuant to rule 10 of the Legal Profession (Practice Training Period) Rules
2009 (the 'Rules'), guidelines were issued by the Board of Legal Education to
assist supervising solicitors and Singapore law practices on instruction to be
given to practice trainees with effect from 4 December 2009 (the 'Guidelines').
The Guidelines provide that for the purpose of rule 6(1)(c) of the Rules,
'a supervising solicitor shall ensure that each practice trainee under his
supervision attends the following courses conducted by the Law Society of
Singapore:
(a) a course on the Legal Profession (Solicitors' Accounts) Rules (Cap. 161,
R8); and
(b) a course on professional ethics.'
Professional Ethics is scheduled on:

24 February 2012 (Friday) 9.15am-12.30pm, limited to 30 seats;

• 21 March 2012 (9am-1.15pm), limited to 200 seats;

You are advised to bring your laptop/netbook (iPads/tablets are not
recommended) for the Learning Assessment to be administered at the end of
the Primer on Professional Ethics. We regret that we are not able to supply
laptops/netbooks to Practice Trainees who fail to bring their laptop/netbook for
the Learning Assessment.
