About Us
The Law Society was established under the Legal Profession Act in 1967. It carries out various statutory functions, including maintaining and improving the standards of conduct and learning of the legal profession in Singapore, and protecting and assisting the public in all matters ancillary or incidental to the law. The Council of the Law Society, which consist of statutory members and elected members, manages the affairs of the Law Society and ensures the proper performance of its functions.

All Singapore lawyers and foreign lawyers registered with the Legal Services Regulatory Authority, are regulated by the Law Society and are bound to comply with the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct) Rules [the Rules]. The Rules set out the professional standards expected of these lawyers. Any person who is aggrieved by the conduct of a lawyer as a result of breach of the Rules may lodge a complaint with the Law Society for the matter to be investigated under the Legal Profession Act.

To be admitted to the Singapore Bar, a person must meet all the requirements of being a “qualified person” as defined in the Legal Profession Act read together with the Legal Profession (Qualified Persons) Rules. The person must also satisfy the qualifying criteria set out in section 13 of the Legal Profession Act.
