Sentencing Conference 2017
26 to 27 October, Supreme Court Auditorium
The Sentencing Conference 2017, jointly organised by the State Courts of Singapore and the Singapore Academy of Law, will be held from 26 to 27 October 2017 in Singapore at the Supreme Court Auditorium. The theme of the Conference is 'Review, Rehabilitation and Reintegration'. The Keynote Address for the Conference will be delivered by the Honourable the Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon. This will be followed by a special lecture titled 'Perspectives on Open Justice: Anonymity and Confidentiality' delivered by The Right Honourable Sir Geoffrey Vos, Chancellor of the High Court of England and Wales.
The Conference speakers and panellists will include Judges, experts from related fields, prosecutors and legal practitioners who will share their views on various aspects of sentencing in our constantly changing global environment. This will include the areas of rehabilitative and community-based sentencing, the use of technological tools to help achieve consistency in sentencing, the application of the forensic psychiatric assessment process to aid in determining causality between psychiatric conditions and the commission of offences, as well as the implementation of after-care and support programmes to rehabilitate and reintegrate ex-offenders into society.
The Conference presents an excellent opportunity for judicial officers, legal practitioners, policy makers, court administrators and academics to delve deeper into issues related to criminal law and sentencing. In addition, 10 CPD points can be earned for attending the Conference.
